That’s Kind of My Vibe - The We-Wu for October 14-18, 2024

This is going to be a peripherals blog more than anything else, I think. That’s what happens when most of what you’re doing in a week is research and trying to figure out how a website works in the backend.

I failed.

You know, there comes a time in one’s life when you just stop understanding new technology. I’m heard of celebrity’s that get mocked because they are still using flip-phones, and most think it’s because at a certain point, they got too big to do things themselves, so they just stick with what they know and let other people keep up with the new tech. And I’m sure that’s part of it. But I think it’s also an age thing. At a certain point, you just can’t cram any new stuff into your brain.

Also, technology is changing at a rate that is impossible to keep up with. It’s ridiculous. So no, I’m not going to learn how to code a website. If you make me, I’ll do it under protest.

Besides, I’ve heard teenagers these days are regressing on certain things. Very few companies can afford to keep up with the latest technology, so they still run things on older equipment with older software. Kids go into the workforce not knowing how to do word processing or how databases are created.

Is any of the previous stuff true? Don’t know. Did any of it make sense? Probably not. But it made me feel better, so we’re sticking with it.

Anyway, like I said, lots of research this week. I’m still looking into grants, though I have to admit, I’m losing hope on that front. There’s a ton of possibilities out there, but I apparently fit in to a very specific niche that doesn’t do anything anyone wants to help fund. I know, I sound bitter, but that’s kind of my vibe. Plus, we’re getting into the Dark Times. Winter, you know? I’m never at my best when it’s cold and the sun is a pale shadow of itself.

I did have one offline thing to do this week, which was proofing the Christmas catalog. We always have special projects for the end of the year, so I got to take an early look and give my opinion. You know I like giving my opinion.

I forgot one thing from last week. I’ve mentioned the bunnies before. I’m still not going to explain the whole thing, mostly because I don’t know the whole thing, but Sarah and I have been keeping track of some tiny bunnies that have been seen around OMS. It’s a fun little project, and it isn’t hurting anyone. Sometimes we move them around a little or put them in fun scenes.

Four of the bunnies went missing last week. Naturally, we did some investigating. It’s really hard to talk about this next part, but I need to call out some toxic behavior. We found three of the bunnies (BREATHE!) in the trash. Who just throws bunnies in the trash?! They were innocent rubber creatures!

Yeah, okay, probably not the worst thing going on in the world right now. But I made Sarah laugh with my very genuine reaction of horror. And then I thoroughly scrubbed those bunnies and gave them a new home.

Yeah, I know, we’re weird, but it makes life interesting. And sometimes you need these little side projects to spice up your life.

Speaking of side projects, one of the things I do when I need brain reset is crossword puzzles. I got one of those calendars that has a new puzzle every day - fairly easy stuff, no Will Short Sunday brain explosions, but I like to think this helps keep my brain sharp.

But I was doing one the other day, and I started to doubt my word ability. Stuff just wasn’t fitting! So I went to the answer key, and lo and behold, the puzzle was WRONG!

Everything that is crossed out was either in the wrong place, numbered incorrectly, or just plain didn’t exist. Fortunately, I do my crosswords with erasable pen, but I have to tell you, I was quite worried for a minute that my time had come. And yes, I’m still in September because I don’t get a chance to reset my brain every day. You’ve probably noticed.

I think that will cover the week. If you know my lovely friend Lydia, be sure to wish her a happy birthday. If you don’t, feel free to do it anyway. I’m sure the universe will convey the message.

I need a fun catchphrase to end the blog. I like the simplicity of “Bye,” but it lacks a certain flair. I could steal one of my favorites and tell you to keep your stick on the ice (points as always for knowing the reference), but I’m not really sure how it relates to what we do around here. If you have any ideas, do let me know.

Bye!
