Selective Relevance - The We-Wu for October 7-11, 2024
Has anyone seen my stapler?
Yes, that was a reference to Hurricane Milton. Not an original thought, but it did make me laugh a bit the first time I heard it, so I had to jump on the bandwagon.
Obviously, we must spare a thought for everyone impacted by the storm. I was watching Ryan Hall off and on, and I honestly don’t know why anyone lives in Florida. We get the odd tornado in Indiana, but a ton of tornadoes on top of a hurricane? I’m out. I’ve seen Twister.
I started the week with a fun little dermatology appointment. Everyone tells you when you’re younger to moisturize, and you never listen because you’re young and your skin is amazing! Then you get older and wonder why everything is either made of sandpaper or tissue paper.
We had a birthday lunch for my friend Pat on Monday. I do enjoy some socializing, especially when it involves food. My gift was a hug Pat didn’t have to ask for. It was very special.
We continued our discipleship class on Tuesday. We had breakout sessions this week, which can either be great or awkward. Part of the awkward this week was because we were being challenged to practice silence and listening, meaning you listen to what someone said and then reflect on it without rushing to give your own perspective. Do you know how hard it is for people in ministry to do that? We have all the opinions! But it was also good to practice. People should definitely do more of that. Just because we have an opinion doesn’t mean we have to share it.
My team had a production meeting this week, though not all of us were there. This time of year makes it more difficult to schedule meetings because of holidays and travel, but we made the best of our time together. Oh, and there’s the small matter that we’re in four different time zones. That probably has more to do with it.
I hosted chapel on Zoom again this week. There isn’t usually a lot to do besides make sure the online people can hear and answering any questions they have. It was a staff briefing, but it was not brief. We haven’t had one for a while, so I think everyone was trying to cram a ton of information into their reports. Do I remember what anyone talked about? Not really. I usually make a note if it’s relevant to me, but I already have too many post-its on my desk. I’m very selective about what I consider relevant.
I’m actually ahead of the game when it comes to my prayer letter this month! I wasn’t sure what to write about, but my brain-storming session with Lori, Lydia, and Sarah was very helpful. I actually had to cut down a little bit of what I had planned to write. It will read a lot like one of these posts, so if you like the blog, you will enjoy the letter. If you don’t like the blog, well, I can’t do much about that, but I appreciate you braving it this far. Your sacrifice is noted.
I’m going to blame my brain for this, but I totally forgot that I had a new assignment on my list - even though I’m the one who put it on my list. Yes, it does happen a lot - see the aforementioned post-its. I was reminded of this item on my list this morning, so I did create a post-it this time. And then I opened up all of the stuff I needed to accomplish the task because I’m terrible at remembering things. But I actually accomplished my task today!
How many times can I talk about my task without actually explaining it? Probably a lot, but I’ll put us all out of our misery. I created the T&M volume for Amharic term 5. Our volumes are color-coded, and term 5 is hot pink. I don’t actually know who chose the colors, but hot pink is awesome.
This, but pink.
My favorite is the color they chose for volume 7 - purple. Ironically, there are no T&M files included in volume 7, so I never get to use it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
(Yes, I did Google the shrug text and then copy/paste.)
I am dog sitting for the next week, but never fear, I will still be working and compiling anecdotes for you. As for this week, I think we’ve covered the gist of it. Have a great weekend, do something fun, and be excellent to each other.
Bye!
