Putting the WE in We-Wu: The We-Wu up to January 17, 2025
We are calm.
We are collected.
We have refreshed the page and logged in correctly, and all systems are go.
(Incidentally, do you find it weird when I use ‘we’ sometimes? Do you ever use the royal we? I used this in a therapy session once, and the therapist asked “who is ‘we?’.” I didn’t think it was that weird. Like, if someone says, how are we today, and I respond with, we’re upright and not crying - which is a phrase I just learned and am appropriating - we (you and I) all understand that by ‘we,’ I mean me and the voices in my head, right?)
Anyway. Today’s blog post is going to work perfectly. My prose will be preserved for preserved for posterity, studied by future generations, and adored by tens.
Just in case, though, I’m copying and pasting into about three different programs.
…
It’s my first fullish week back at work since the holiday! I was in and out the week of New Years (New Year’s?), and last week I was out Friday for travel. Let’s cover last week first. There was a lot of catching up on emails and figuring out priorities. I’m deep into our newest book for Train & Multiply, and I have been doing art swaps for a Spanish version.
We had a big meeting last Thursday to talk about potential revisions to the New Village Church Planting curriculum. This is primarily used in Africa, and I get to work with my Mom on this project, so that’s cool. There are eight terms, and now that all of them are written, it behooves us to make sure future students receive our best work. This will be a big part of our work in this first quarter.
This last weekend, I went up to Michigan with my family to celebrate my Aunt’s 80th birthday. I was also hoping to have a couple of funding conversations with people, which was semi-successful. The party took place while a mild blizzard was happening, so the fact that it happened at all was miraculous. I did my best to be helpful to my cousin and honor my Aunt, and I think it was a great party.
Of course, being Winter meant we had even more snow on our way back, so I didn’t get back into town until Tuesday afternoon. Just in time for negative temps. And carpet replacement downstairs. What fun. (It stinks, actually. Literally. Carpet glue is no joke. We didn’t even get a decent buzz from it.)
This week, I’m working on art swaps and tech concerns for the April conference and trying not to upchuck. I’m back on Mounjaro, which makes food extremely unappetizing.
I chose the worst time for it, too. Right before my birthday.
What?! It was my birthday this week?! I had no idea!
Hey, it was my birthday this week. I am now 39, likely for the rest of my life. (That wasn’t supposed to be morbid. I just mean I’ll be telling everyone I’m 39-and-holding for the next however long it takes to not feel old.)
Someone asked me if I have any goals for this year, and I honestly don’t know. I’m not really a goal person. There’s probably some psychological explanation for that. I just kinda do my thing. I don’t want or foresee marriage, and moving up in my industry isn’t really a thing - part of going where I’m needed, I guess. But if you have any ideas for goals, feel free to share them.
That’s the state of things thus far. I’m hoping Monday (January 20) will be a perfectly normal day with absolutely no drama outside of Notre Dame taking on Ohio State. I feel like it’s tempting fate to say nothing surprises me anymore, but honestly, I don’t even believe in aliens, and they could reveal they’ve been hanging out on Earth for years now, and I wouldn’t even blink. Sure. Why not?
So, barring aliens, I’ll see you next week.
Take care of some small stuff this weekend.
Bye!
