Parenthetically: The We-Wu for August 12-16, 2024

If June is People Month at OMS, then August is the doldrums. It seems like everyone takes a last-minute vacation before school and/or summer ends. In some ways, it feels a bit like COVID-times again - maybe 10 people in the office, very few visitors, and, most of all, QUIET. I can’t say I hate it.

I took a mini vacation on Thursday to attend the Indiana State Fair. I try to go every year because it’s fun and gets me out of the house. I went with my parents, and we did indeed have a lovely time. I got a stress ball in the shape of a brain. Some people’s brains are just a little extra squishy.

The rest of the week was pretty busy. I’ve been changing copyright dates on English files (which is completely legal) and uploading files to correct locations. Templates are coming along nicely. Have I shown you the art differences? I have no idea where the chart is right now (don’t get me started on my file management - it needs serious work), but I do appreciate that we have different art depending on where users live.

Speaking of file management - do you ever watch Hoarders and just kind of wish you could do what they do on the show? (I can hear the tsking now.) Not the hoarding part (though sometimes I want to be a dragon) but the taking everything out of your house and putting it in the yard to sort through it. Sometimes I want to do that with my computer files (and my house). Like in Minority Report when Tom Cruise uses the holographic interface to investigate pre-crime. Just put everything out there, decide on folders and sub-folders, and then shove each file into its proper place. Of course, then you have to remember your system and keep it up after the fact. And do you allow for cross-categorization? I could spend a lifetime organizing other people’s filing systems while confidently ignoring my own.

Anyway.

I had a long and mostly lovely conversation/meeting with Sarah about an upcoming event I usually help with. We were identifying issues we’ve had in the past and positing solutions and best practices to avoid difficulties in the future. We like to joke that Sarah and I share a brain, but we tend to use different parts of it. We do work well together, but we don’t get many opportunities with our respective jobs these days. I’m not sure how many of our recommendations will be considered, but at least we did our due diligence.

Oh! I wrote my next prayer letter this week as well. That will be rolling out in the next couple of weeks. It’s a continuation of the reports and prayer requests from the Church Multiplication Conference in April. (Ironically, exactly what Sarah and I were discussing in our meeting.) It also introduces the website for those who are less online than the rest of us. Please give them a warm welcome.

I think that does it for this week. I’m not sure if there will be a blog post next week since I will be working mostly from a dog client’s home. We’ll see what happens.

Bye!
